I love the looks of this litter box...and it comes in colors to match every decor...but it doesn't prevent scattered litter one bit. I have 2 cats that use it and have to sweep in front of it once a day. The so-called "stairs" to catch the remaining litter on the cats feet just fill up with litter and then they can track it on the floor. Also, there is nothing preventing the cats from going straight from the main potty area out the door (just a simple leap and they can avoid using the stairs at all)...which means all of any litter caught in their paws goes straight on the floor. Minus stars for that!
As for odor control...I think it does a wonderful job at that. I have been using mine for over a year and never replaced the filter on top as I don't need to. Unsure if its the litter I am using (Fresh Step) or if it is just a really good design??
My last gripe...the potty area is curved, which makes it dificult to scoop out dirty litter (the scooper is square). Because I have 2 cats, I do this about twice a week so it doesn't pile up too much...but if you let it pile up it is harder to scoop out than with a traditional rectangular box (assuming you are using clumping clay litter).
Overall, I like this box...it is a shame I had to give it only 3 stars because of the mess-factor. If you don't mind cleaning up tracked litter for a low odor box...this is for you!
********UPDATE********
Two and a half years into this box and I still love it, despite the 3 stars.Still have 2 cats using it also.I hose this down every 2 weeks and when doing that always wind up dropping it a few times...but it is still in like-new condition.I made a plastic barrier to prevent my cats from going straight from the litter area out the door (kind of like a wall in the center of the box, putting this up prevents them from jumping out of the main litter area and forces them to walk down the steps, which are designed to cause litter trapped in their paws to fall off).The stairs still fill up with litter and therefore still gets tracked outside the box, but it is much better now with the interior wall.:-)
